Who We Are
Congregations called "The Christian Churches, the Disciples of Christ, and Churches of Christ brought about a division after 150
years in service. They began in America in the latter part of the 18th century. They were made up largely from Methodists, Presbyterians and Baptists. The
restoration movement brought into being the movements referred to as "the Christian Churches." There were several other movements and separations after this
period of time.
First Christian Church of Mobile was established as a Disciples of Christ Church. In the 1970's First Christian Church of Mobile became an independent Christian Church.

First Christian Church of Mobile is basically a New Testament Church and was started here in 1899. The
disciples were called Christians first in Antioch (Acts 11:26). We believe in the New Testament creed: "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the
Living God . . . Upon this rock I will build my Church." (Matt. 16:16,18).
Constructed in a Gothic style, the church is one of only a rare few stone structures of its period; remaining in Mobile. This structure
was dedicated in 1941. |
